Dean of Students and Spiritual Formation

Reports to: Upper School Principal

Position Objective: Provide leadership, integration, and implementation of the Traders Point Christian Schools (TPCS) discipleship model campus-wide, through speaking, discipline, resources, and experiences that will strengthen the spiritual climate and outreach campus-wide for the TPCS school community, with a focus on training and disciplining “disciples” and establishing relationships with students in grades 5-12.

  • This employee is a Christian with an authentic and mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ, commitment to Christian education, and agreement with the Traders Point Christian Schools Statement of Faith. 
  • The Dean of Students and Spiritual Formation must be professional and approachable in appearance and manner, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • The ability to mentor, teach, counsel, and motivate those within their scope of influence is critical. 
  • Other characteristics include a focus on servant leadership, the ability to cast vision, and a team-builder who creates a unique environment for the discipleship of students using a non-denominational approach. 
  • The Dean of Students and Spiritual Formation must understand and appreciate the culture of today’s families, focusing on teenagers, and fully aware of what is relevant to them. 
  • A wise and discerning spirit, with the ability and willingness to listen, are valued characteristics for success in this role, as are compassion, confidence, and impeccable integrity. 
  • This employee must exercise discretion and sensitivity in handling confidential matters. 
  • In addition, establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with the TPCS community at large, including faculty and staff, parents, volunteers, and others, is crucial to this role.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field (Education, Bible, or Counseling) is required. 
  • A minimum of five (5) years of extensive, relevant experience working with multi-denominational Christian youth in a ministry role is preferred. 
  • Licensure as a professional counselor is encouraged.

  • Proficient in Google Suite.

Responsibilities: 

  • Help design and then lead the implementation of the TPCS spiritual formation model in a manner consistent with the TPCS Mission Statement. 
  • Serve as a member of the Upper School administration. 
  • Address behaviors that do not align with the student handbook, and apply restorative disciplinary action. 
  • Coordinate with the Upper School Principal to facilitate the MS, JH, and HS new student orientation, new student events, and first day of school schedule. 
  • Help coordinate chapel programs: theme, guests, music, and logistical needs. 
  • Work collaboratively with the Upper School Principal in developing and promoting spiritually oriented programs and events in grades 5-12. 
  • Promotes TPCS diversity efforts. 
  • Maintain high visibility during and after the school day, attending extracurricular activities. 
  • Assist the Student Life Office with Senior events such as Senior Retreat. 
  • Assist school administrators (5-12) in matters of spiritual counsel, including those for students who enter into a contract due to a handbook violation. 
  • Attend faculty/staff meetings, and committee meetings as appropriateCounsel or advise students

Work Schedule: This is a full-time, salaried, 10-month position, Monday - Friday. Regular business hours are 7:30 am-4:00 pm. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, which includes evening and weekend events throughout the school year.
